Drones are proliferating and as embedded Linux computers decrease in size, consumption and cost it becomes possible to create small and capable flying computers; robots that would simplify the transfer of knowledge and allow a big community of experts to jump into robotic application development using Linux.
In this talk Víctor Mayoral Vilches will introduce the Linux side of the APM (MultiPlatform Autopilot) autopilot; an open source project with about 700.000 lines of code and more than a hundred contributors that supports three classes of autonomous drones:
copters, planes and rovers.
Víctor will also motivate the potential of using ROS as the SDK for robot application development and provide an overview of the new "app store" for robots resulting from a collaboration between Canonical, the Open Source Robotics Foundation and hardware manufacturers such as Erle Robotics. Together with the capabilities, Víctor will provide a hands-on demo session on how to create a drone application and deploy it to the drone.

Alejandro Hernández is a roboticist that holds Telecommunication engineering and a Master in Computer Vision. He has participated in various projects involving embedded Linux and robotics such as giving reliable and personalized transport system solutions for moving heavy and complicated loads. He also have worked on a wide array of problems related to Computer Vision ranging from geometry recovery from single image or 3D reconstruction from multiple images, tracking or camera calibration. He have been involved in the APM autopilot project. He is one of the contributors of the "port to Linux".
He is also one of the engineer of Erle Robotics, a spanish startup selected worldwide as one of the 30 most promising in the field of robotics that is pushing forward Linux drones through Erle-brain, an open source and open hardware Linux autopilot.

Iñigo is an engineer who holds a degree and master in Electronics. He have combined the studies with internships in well known companies, in areas like control engineering, electronics and fabrication functional tests. Once finished the studies, he had also made an intern in a R&I company, in the Embedded Electronic Systems department.
He is also one of the engineer of Erle Robotics, a spanish startup selected worldwide as one of the 30 most promising in the field of robotics that is pushing forward Linux drones through Erle-brain, an open source and open hardware Linux autopilot. In this company, is in charge of design improvements, new device designs and tests,... And it has been responsible of making Erle-Plane fly!
